Cops & Doughnuts donut shop in Clare Michigan makes Psycho Donuts in Campbell California look so yesterday
Cops & Doughnuts of Clare, Micigan, which opened on July 1 is poised to push Psycho Donuts of Campbell, California off the news radar. Cops & Doughnuts, according to an AP story, is owned by nine full-time employees of the Clare, Michigan police department. The AP story went on to say:
The newly renamed bakery opened Wednesday, offering doughnuts, cookies, muffins, brownies and bread. It also has mugs and T-shirts bearing the “Cops & Doughnuts, 100 Percent Cop-Owned” logo, and phrases including “You Have the Right to Remain Glazed” and “Handcuffs and Cream Puffs.”
Officer Al White says the officers were concerned when the Clare City Bakery’s owners decided to throw in the towel. The 113-year-old bakery would have become the sixth empty storefront in Clare’s three-block downtown.
Cops & Doughnuts has yet to receive its first review on www.yelp.com. However, it already has 347 fans on facebook.
Cops & Doughnuts web site had this to say about the shop:
What began as a crazy idea among police friends is quickly becoming an international phenomenon. There is a doughnut shop and bakery in Clare, Michigan that has been in constant operation since 1896. This foundation business was within weeks of closing when the members of the Clare Police Department came to the rescue. All of them. That’s right, all nine members of the local police department banded together to save this historic business. Dubbed “Cops and Doughnuts,” the business boasts handmade confections of all types. Join us for a warm fresh doughnut and a steaming cup of coffee while you enjoy the police decor and friendly, and very safe, atmosphere. Come and see the new store in Clare that everyone is talking about.
Unlike Psycho Donuts of Campbell, California, Cops & Donuts of Clare, Michigan is not likely to offend anyone. First, of all it was started by cops. The humor is at their expense, not someone else’s. Furthermore, the humor does not stigmatize anyone. Cops & Doughnuts also offers merchandise from the same company that Psycho Donuts does, but, unlike Psycho Donuts, had the sense not to offer a Cops & Doughnuts thong.
We wish Cops & Doughnuts all the best.

I can’t believe this video:
How dare they say they are fair and balanced when they let the “owner” of that vile company even speak!!
http://www.vimeo.com/5297908
There is only one side … the side of the “light” and goodness that we are on.
also
I saw the owner Kip (Editor’s Note: deleted by editor because I cannot allow people who comment to say things that could be considered defamatory if no proof is offered to back it up. That’s not to say you didn’t see what you said you saw.)
I think he is stalking me too!
He is vile and disgusting. When will he stop??
I watched the video and thought the maker of it was quite fair. While I disagree totally with the owner’s rationale, he has the right to speak. I think both sides were given equal attention.
Psycho Donuts has a new donut called (deleted until proof offered) that is totally vile.
My husband took a picture of it … how do I upload it to this site?
When will they stop making fun of us? If they were making fun of other groups like African Americans, or people with cancer … there would be total outrage in the community!
My son is bipolar, and his friend was in a car accident! Every time I look at a donut I see my son and his friend!
How do I donate to this site?
Thanks
If it’s true that the shop has a donut by that name, you can e-mail me the photo using the contact page above. I would like other proof that they offer a donut by that name as well.
While I think Psycho Donuts is stigmatizing the mentally ill, we cannot make allegations against them without proof.
No donations are needed at this point. Thank you for your comments and concern.
