Silicon Valley Independent Living Center receives $15k grant from Cisco Foundation

2009 July 3

We reported earlier that Cisco leads in the number of employees who list themselves as friends of Psycho Donuts, a mental illness themed donut shop in Campbell, California. The Silicon Valley Independent Living Center has been one of the leaders in the battle to get Psycho Donuts to stop stigmatizing the mentally ill. It’s somewhat ironic but a great pleasure to post the latest news from SVILC concerning a gift from the Cisco Foundation.

SVILC is pleased to announce the recent award of a Cisco Foundation grant. The grant for $15,000 will support employment services for persons with disabilities, including consumers in the “job club.” The job club is a set of half-day workshops that develop pre-employment skills and helps individuals with disabilities advocate for their own needs and increase their job marketability. Thank you Cisco!

I don’t think Cisco sucks, especially since the foundation gave money to the SVILC. I don’t even have anything against their employees. I simply noted that on Facebook, they made up the largest number of employees of any organization supporting Psycho Donuts. Many of them have apparently not thought out what they are doing. It’s not just about donuts; it’s about stigmatizing the mentally ill.
